Geumjeongsanseong Fortress Village & Plaza
A lived-in highland village and gathering plaza in Geumseong-dong inside the broad Geumjeongsanseong fortress area. Unlike the North Gate, the summit or Beomeosa Temple, the plaza is a practical meeting point for the October 2026 Geumjeongsanseong Festival and a lower-intensity introduction to local fortress heritage, eateries and village walks.
The October 16–18, 2026 Geumjeongsanseong Festival takes place at the plaza/village, with guided walks, fortress-history experiences, performances and a local market. On October 18, a 13:30 historical talk is scheduled at the festival venue. Organizer notice October 8 describes 5% discounts at specified participating village shops, but only after showing the correct coupon from the festival guidebook, valid October 16–November 30. The festival dates and activity times do not establish ordinary village-shop opening hours. Confirm festival shuttle directions, routes, late-evening return options and forecast before travel.
Why go
Plan the main plaza and village lanes as a visit block rather than assuming a full-day mountain climb. From here explore local history programming, traditional food and short signed trails when available. The North Gate, eastern fortress wall and summit are separate hiking destinations requiring different routes and more time. Observe residents' private spaces and the rural-road traffic.
