Sungnyemun Gate (Namdaemun)

Historic South Gate of Seoul’s old city wall, near Seoul Station, Hoehyeon and Namdaemun Market. Seoul’s official tourism guide lists gate visiting hours Tue–Sun 09:00–18:00, closed Monday. The outdoor royal-guard ceremony is a separate activity, listed by its operator Tue–Sun 10:00–15:40 with opening at 10:00 and closing at 15:30; it may be canceled due to weather.

Seoul’s recurring historical guard ceremony is listed at Sungnyemun Gate Square every day except Monday, 10:00–15:40. Opening ceremony 10:00–10:10 and closing ceremony 15:30–15:40; patrols pass Namdaemun Market 11:20–11:40 and Seoul Station 14:45–15:00. The operator lists a 12:00–13:00 break but some detailed shift tables differ; recheck the official schedule. The optional ‘One-day Patrol Guard’ is a separate advance-booked activity each Saturday/Sunday at 11:30 for just two participants per session, minimum height 120 cm, with arrival 40 minutes early for training. Applications are advertised from the 20th of the previous month, but current availability is unverified. The operator offers Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese audio commentary. Ceremony may be canceled due to weather; check official notices.
