Treat every island trip as a separate route
Yeosu has multiple coastal passenger routes. Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority currently lists routes such as Yeosu–Geomun, Yeosu–Yeondo and Yeosu–Hamgumi, each with different stops and travel patterns. Do not assume “Yeosu ferry terminal” means one boat to every island.
Bring original identification
Yeosu City’s official passenger-ship guidance says passengers must present identity documents when tickets are issued and when boarding. A valid passport is listed as an acceptable document for ordinary passengers. Arrive with the original document rather than relying on a photo on your phone.
Recheck the sailing on the day
Weather and operator conditions can change departures. KOMSA provides same-day coastal passenger-ship operating information and also points travelers to detailed passenger-traffic information. Check the actual route on the day of travel even if you already bought a ticket.
Do not use an old timetable as a current schedule
Yeosu City’s English passenger-ship page is useful for the identity procedure and terminal contact, but the page itself shows an older update date. Use it as background, not as proof of today’s departure time or fare. Confirm current times and prices with the ferry operator, booking system or KOMSA.
Geomundo is a long sea leg
KOMSA’s current route page describes the Yeosu–Geomun route as roughly 59 nautical miles and about 2 hours 20 minutes, with intermediate stops. Build enough margin for ticketing, identity checks and weather-related changes rather than treating it like a short urban ferry.
Practical checklist
- Confirm the exact island and route.
- Bring your passport or other accepted original ID.
- Check the operator’s booking and terminal instructions.
- Recheck same-day operation with KOMSA before leaving for the port.
- Keep extra time for identity checks and disrupted sailings.
