Jeju is easy to reduce to scenery. The Tamna Cultural Festival is a useful correction because it starts from the island’s own historical name and cultural memory rather than from a checklist of beaches, cafés or photo spots.
The 65th edition is scheduled for October 17–21, 2026 and is being held in conjunction with the 107th National Sports Festival. Visit Jeju describes four program frames: a Roots Plaza focused on traditions, myths and cultural archetypes; a Play Plaza centered on Jeju folk culture; a Harmony Plaza where traditional and contemporary arts meet; and a Dreamlight Plaza built around participation and younger generations.
For an international visitor, the useful way to approach this is not to expect one single stage. The main venue is Jeju Citizens’ Welfare Town Plaza in Jeju City, but the festival is described as island-wide. Choose programs by subject and location, then confirm the latest daily timetable before travelling across Jeju. Operational details are still subject to change.
The editorial value is cultural context. The festival traces a line from the Jeju Arts Festival of 1962 through the Halla Culture Festival and the later Tamna Culture Festival name, using performance and participation to keep local identity visible. That does not make every program equally important, but it gives travelers a reason to see Jeju as a living cultural region rather than only a resort landscape.
