First decide which Daejeon arrival point fits your stay
There is no single best airport-to-Daejeon route for every visitor. The useful decision is which Daejeon gateway leaves you closest to your hotel or first activity.
- Old downtown / Daejeon Station side: rail arrival at Daejeon Station is easy to understand and connects directly to Subway Line 1.
- Yuseong / hot-spring / western science side: a bus that reaches the Yuseong side can reduce unnecessary backtracking.
- Daejeon Terminal Complex / eastern city: a direct intercity bus can be useful if your accommodation or onward connection is near the terminal.
These are itinerary suggestions, not claims that one option is always faster.
From Incheon International Airport
Option 1: direct intercity bus to Daejeon
Incheon Airport's current official bus-search page lists Daejeon as a destination and links to the integrated intercity-bus reservation system.
This is the lower-transfer option when a current departure fits your flight. Do not save an old timetable: search the official airport bus page again after landing or shortly before travel.
At Terminal 1, bus ticket information and sales are available around the arrival-floor ticket booths. At Terminal 2, intercity-bus ticketing is in the B1 Transportation Center. Incheon Airport advises travelers to allow for immigration time after arrival when booking onward public transport.
Option 2: AREX to Seoul Station, then rail to Daejeon Station
Daejeon Metropolitan City's English directions currently describe the route as Incheon Airport → AREX → Seoul Station → train → Daejeon Station. The city gives roughly 1 hour 10 minutes for the airport-rail segment and about 1 hour for the Seoul-to-Daejeon train segment, before transfer/waiting time.
Choose this when Daejeon Station is a convenient arrival point or when the direct airport-bus departure does not fit your timing.
From Cheongju International Airport
Option 1: direct intercity bus
Cheongju Airport's official English directions list direct intercity buses to Daejeon Terminal Complex and Yuseong Terminal.
This is especially useful because the two Daejeon arrival points serve different parts of the city. If your hotel is on the Yuseong side, check the Yuseong-bound option before automatically routing yourself through Daejeon Station.
Option 2: rail from Cheongju Airport Station
Cheongju Airport Station is on the Chungbuk Line and is about 600 m from the airport's intercity-bus terminal. The airport states that it is an unmanned station and that all passenger trains on the Chungbuk Line stop there; tickets can be purchased at the Tourist Information counter on the first floor of the passenger terminal.
Daejeon city's directions describe the airport-to-Daejeon rail trip as roughly 1 hour to Daejeon Station. Check the exact train that matches your flight time before choosing this option.
After you arrive in Daejeon
- Daejeon Station: connect to Subway Line 1, local buses or taxi.
- Yuseong side: use Line 1, bus or a short taxi according to the final destination.
- Daejeon Terminal Complex: check your final local bus/taxi connection rather than assuming it is next to Daejeon Station.
Late arrival and missed connections
Do not assume a daytime route still works after a late international arrival. Incheon Airport explicitly recommends allowing 1–2 hours for immigration when booking onward public transportation. Recheck the final bus or train after you know your real arrival time.
Check before travel
Airport bus schedules, fares, terminal stops and rail timetables can change. Use the official Incheon Airport, Cheongju Airport and Daejeon city pages for the exact service on your travel date.
