Hangeul Day in 2026 is not just another annual holiday. The National Hangeul Museum is marking 100 years since the observance was established in 1926 with the special exhibition “FROM 1926 TO INFINITY.”

The practical detail matters: the exhibition is not inside the National Hangeul Museum’s Yongsan building. That main museum is temporarily closed for expansion work. Instead, the centennial exhibition is being staged at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History on Gwanghwamun Square, in its 3rd-floor Theme Hall.

For an international visitor, this makes Gwanghwamun the more useful Hangeul stop right now. The host museum is free, sits about 250 meters from Gwanghwamun Station Exit 2, and stays open until 21:00 on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Its regular hours are 10:00–18:00 on the other listed opening days, with last entry 30 minutes before closing.

The exhibition runs from October 2, 2026 to February 9, 2027. That longer window matters: you do not need to be in Seoul on October 9 itself to see the centennial material. The current arrangement also helps explain why a traveler who simply searches for “National Hangeul Museum” could end up at the wrong building during this period.

The anniversary and the exhibition should be read as related but not identical. Hangeul Day is the national commemoration; “FROM 1926 TO INFINITY” is a specific centennial exhibition presented by the National Hangeul Museum with partner institutions. Treat the exhibition as one concrete way to understand the centennial rather than as the whole of Hangeul Day.
