Gwangju-Songjeong Station is both a major rail gateway and a Line 1 metro stop, so many visitors can avoid an immediate taxi if their destination is near the metro corridor. For central Gwangju, Line 1 serves stops including Culture Center (Former Provincial Office), Geumnam-ro and other downtown stations. If your hotel or terminal is not on Line 1, plan the final leg separately rather than assuming the rail station is in the downtown core.
The current Gwangju Transportation Corporation timetable lists the first Line 1 train from Gwangju-Songjeong toward the Sotae/Nokdong side at about 05:34 and the last at about 23:31; toward Pyeongdong it lists about 05:53 to 23:56. Treat those as current operator times, not a promise for every future date. If your KTX or SRT arrives near midnight, check the live timetable before boarding the train to Gwangju and budget for a taxi if the metro connection will be gone.
The metro uses a flat-fare system. The operator currently lists an adult fare of 1,250 won with a transport card and 1,400 won with a single-use ticket. Travelers should still recheck fares and service notices before travel.
