Ganghwa is connected by road, not rail

Ganghwa County's official transport information lists bus corridors linking the island with Incheon, Gimpo and Seoul-side transfer points. For a visitor without a car, the first decision is which mainland bus gets you to Ganghwa most efficiently from your actual starting point.

Expect a second bus after arrival

The county's local-bus information lists dozens of intra-county routes, including services around Seokmodo. That means a trip to a temple, observatory, dolmen site, beach or island village should not be planned as if the mainland bus goes directly to the attraction. In many cases, Ganghwa Bus Terminal or another local hub is where the trip changes character.

Use the terminal as an information reset point

Ganghwa Bus Terminal has a tourist information center. If your route is unclear, it is a useful place to reconfirm the correct local bus, especially when your destination uses a route number unfamiliar to visitors.

Build in time for low-frequency local service

Route numbers and schedules can change. Check the current county bus page on the day of travel and do not use an old blog timetable as your only source. For Seokmodo or a distant rural stop, verify the return bus before you leave the hub. A taxi can be a sensible backup for the last segment, but availability should not be assumed late at night.
