From Daejeon, it is usually better to choose one direction per day rather than combine several nearby cities.

Sejong — best for parks, modern civic spaces and family-friendly indoor/outdoor combinations. Use Sejong Lake Park and Central Park as the outdoor spine, then add the National Sejong Arboretum, National Library of Korea Sejong or Presidential Archives. October 9–11 brings the Sejong Hangeul Festival.

Gongju — the clearest choice for Baekje history. Start with Gongsanseong Fortress and the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong and Royal Tombs. Gongju KTX Station is outside the heritage center, so plan the last bus or taxi.

Gyeryong — useful for military-city context, mountains and quieter walking. The 2026 Gyeryong Military Culture Festival and Ground Forces Festival ended October 5, so current trips should not be built around those temporary programs.

Geumsan — strongest now for ginseng-market culture, local food and the 44th Geumsan World K-Insam Festival, running October 2–11. Program times and crowding vary.

Okcheon — a good east-side choice for literary old-town culture or Daecheong Lake nature. The compact old-town option is easier without a car; lake and forest sights are more dispersed, so choose one or two.

Cheongju/Ochang — a northeast option that becomes much easier to understand if Osong, central Cheongju and Ochang are treated separately. Osong is the rail gateway, not downtown Cheongju. Central/eastern Cheongju works for museums and city culture. Ochang is the current festival direction: Cheongwon Life Festival runs October 2–11 at Miraeji Rural Theme Park.

Nonsan — the strongest southbound addition right now. For scenery, use Tapjeongho Lake and its suspension bridge; in October the bridge operates 09:00–18:00 with last entry at 17:30, admission is free, and weather can restrict access. For screen culture, Sunshine Studio is an established filming-location stop. For this week, Yeonsan Jujube Cultural Festival runs October 9–11 around Yeonsan Station with free admission. The following weekend, Ganggyeong Salted Seafood Festival runs October 15–18, 10:00–22:00 at the Ganggyeong Geumgang riverside. These are different Nonsan sub-areas, so do not assume one compact walking loop.

Quick choice: family indoor/outdoor = Sejong; history = Gongju; military-city and mountain context = Gyeryong; market/food/current festival = Geumsan; literature/lake/forest = Okcheon; museum/city culture or the current Ochang festival = Cheongju; lake scenery, filming locations or current southbound festival = Nonsan. These destinations point in different directions from Daejeon and are inefficient as a same-day loop.
