For a museum or convention day in Daejeon’s Expo/science district, the easiest food plan is to use one of two clearly documented anchors instead of searching from scratch after you get hungry.
At DCC 1, the convention center’s official facilities page lists Seongsimdang DCC branch on the 1st floor and Cafe 1956 on the 2nd floor. It also lists Lotte Hotel Catering on the 3rd floor for event catering. For ordinary visitors, Seongsimdang and Cafe 1956 are the straightforward on-site bakery/cafe choices; event catering should not be assumed to work like a public restaurant.
For a broader meal, cafe or dessert choice, Daejeon Shinsegae Art & Science is the stronger nearby fallback. Shinsegae’s official restaurant page currently lists the main restaurant zone at 11:00–21:30 and Hanbat Daesikdang at 10:30–21:00, with last order 30 minutes before closing. The store also categorizes its dining options into restaurant zone, food hall, cafe/dessert, Hanbat Daesikdang and deli.
The National Science Museum’s own official directions repeatedly use the 'National Science Museum entrance / Shinsegae Department Store' and 'Shinsegae Department Store' stops, which makes Shinsegae a practical food reference point for museum visitors without inventing an exact walking time. DCC bus guidance also routes several lines through Shinsegae before or after DCC.
Practical rule: if you are already inside DCC 1 and only need bread, coffee or a quick break, use the on-site facilities first. If your group needs a wider meal choice, later dining hours or multiple preferences, use Shinsegae’s restaurant/food-hall information as the fallback. Do not assume every individual brand follows the department store’s general hours; check the specific restaurant if timing is critical.
