Seodaemun Prison History Hall
A historic prison preserved as a memorial museum to Korea's independence movement and the experiences of people imprisoned under Japanese colonial rule. Visit the cell blocks, historical exhibitions and Seodaemun Independence Park nearby. Some exhibits deal with imprisonment and violence, so families should consider children's comfort.
A practical year-round weekend option. For October 10-11, 2026, the museum's normal March–October 09:30–18:00 schedule applies as published, with last admission 30 minutes before closing; the official October calendar should be checked for any special closure. Adult admission is KRW 3,000, teens KRW 1,500 and children aged 7–12 KRW 1,000. Special educational programs, guided tours and capacity-dependent reservations are separate from ordinary admission.
Why go
An important, historically grounded Seoul stop distinct from shopping and seasonal festivals. The museum is next to Dongnimmun Station, and a visitor can combine the memorial with the Independence Gate and nearby independence-history monuments without confusing the park with the paid museum.
