Namdaemun Market
An expansive traditional shopping and food district near Hoehyeon and Sungnyemun, with wholesale and retail stalls, kitchenware, accessories, flowers and food alleys. It has no single reliable opening time: shops operate independently, the Seoul Tourism guide flags Sunday closures, and food sellers may follow different schedules. Never promise that every stall is open overnight or on a public holiday.
On the October 9–11 Hangeul Day long weekend, confirm individual merchants' holiday and Sunday opening hours. Do not treat the very long overall market schedule as the opening hours of a specific shop; check the tourist information center separately.
Why go
Browse merchandise or eat around the market, then walk to Sungnyemun and the City Hall–Deoksugung area. Visitors can start at Hoehyeon Station, compare prices and ask about retail versus wholesale terms. Seoul's listed Namdaemun Market Tourist Information Center offers multilingual help when staffed.
