Myeongdong Cathedral
A landmark brick Gothic Catholic cathedral in central Seoul, completed in 1898, with a significant place in Korean religious and modern civic history. It is an active place of worship, not just an attraction: visitors should respect services, prayer and any temporary restricted areas. The neighboring Myeongdong shopping streets make a sensible walkable itinerary.
Seoul Tourism's cathedral listing was updated September 17, 2026. For October 2026 visits it gives an address and metro exits, but published tourist visiting hours must not be mistaken for a guarantee of access during worship or special ceremonies. The cathedral's direct website was not reachable via our external check, so same-day mass timing is not verified.
Why go
For architectural and historical context beyond Myeongdong's shops: the red-brick cathedral, vaulted interior and quieter surroundings. Do not assume photos or sightseeing access are permitted during a service; follow signs and clergy/staff instructions.
