Jongmyo Shrine — UNESCO Royal Ancestral Shrine

A UNESCO-listed Joseon royal ancestral shrine in central Jongno. Visits work differently by day: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays and the last Wednesday of each month allow self-guided admission (not free admission), while other weekdays generally require entry with an official guide at a designated language-specific time.

Why it matters now

For October 17–18, 2026 (Sat–Sun), the official rules list paid self-guided visiting, with October visiting hours 09:00–18:00 and last entry 17:00. The listed adult admission is KRW 1,000, subject to current official concessions and changes. Normally closed Tuesdays; check holiday exceptions and same-day restrictions.

Why go

Near Jongno 3-ga Station Exit 8 (about 220 m per Visit Seoul), it pairs well with Seosulla-gil and nearby palaces. Check official English, Japanese or Chinese guided sessions on applicable weekdays; the shrine is not a walk-in-anytime attraction every day.
