Gwangju National Museum
A national museum devoted to the archaeology and cultural heritage of Gwangju and Jeolla, with permanent collections, a strong ceramics focus, a children’s museum and a museum garden.
Rechecked on 4 October 2026. The current Korean official visitor page lists the main museum at 10:00–18:00 with last entry at 17:30, free general admission, and closures on 1 January, Seollal and Chuseok day plus temporary closure on 14 December 2026. The English page retains some older operating details, so the current Korean visitor page should be treated as the primary operating reference. Official pages rechecked 2026-10-08: main galleries 10:00–18:00 (last entry 17:30), free except paid special exhibitions; Children’s Museum 10:00–17:00, five sessions/100 per session (70 online, 30 on site), online booking recommended; toddler room for under-36-month-olds requires name-list entry but no reservation; garden 08:00–20:00. Closed Jan 1, Seollal/Chuseok day and Dec 14, 2026. Parking 08:00–20:00, first 3 hours free, then KRW 500/10 min (daily cap KRW 40,000), card-only, exit within 30 min after payment. Official buses serve Songjeong Station/U-Square; recheck current routes. Three Naver family reviews discuss ceramics/digital exhibitions, booking and parking; these are personal experiences, not current operational evidence.
Why go
Choose it to understand the historical depth of Gwangju and the wider Jeolla region beyond the city’s contemporary culture. Free general admission, family facilities and the ceramics collections make it useful for both first-time visitors and repeat regional travelers.
