Gwangjang Market

A historic Jongno market combining a busy food alley with textiles, hanbok and vintage clothing. Do not treat all sections as having the same hours: the Seoul Tourism Organization lists general market stalls at 09:00–18:00, closed Sundays; the food alley at 09:00–23:00 daily, including Sundays; and the Guje shopping section around 10:00–19:00, closed Sundays. Individual sellers and holiday schedules can differ.

Why it matters now

During the October 9–11 holiday weekend, the Sunday food alley and Sunday-closed general retail sections are particularly important to distinguish. Published opening ranges are planning guides only, not proof a specific stall will open on Hangeul Day.

Why go

Sample local street foods such as mung-bean pancakes and gimbap, or browse textiles and clothing. Compare clearly posted menus and prices before ordering, and ask each stall about payment methods. A daytime stop pairs naturally with Jongmyo and the Dongdaemun–Cheonggyecheon area.
