Gwanghwamun Square
A central civic square on Sejong-daero linking King Sejong and Admiral Yi Sun-sin memorial spaces with Gyeongbokgung, Sejong Story, museums and frequent city events. The square itself is open 24 hours year-round, while fountains, exhibitions and event programs keep their own schedules.
The square hosts Seoul's Hangeul Day centennial participation program on October 9, 2026, making a practical Place page especially useful for this weekend's route planning.
Why go
It is one of the most useful anchors for planning central Seoul: Gyeongbokgung, Sejong Story, the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History, Cheonggyecheon and Seochon can be combined on foot, and many city-run events use the square as their venue.
