Gongsanseong Fortress
A UNESCO-listed Baekje royal fortress above the Geumgang in Gongju, with a roughly 2.66-kilometer wall circuit, river views and archaeological layers that continued through later Korean dynasties.
Checked 8 October 2026: the 72nd Baekje Cultural Festival runs 3–11 October across Geumgangsingwan Park, Mirseom, Gongsanseong and central Gongju. The festival’s official notice says the free shuttle between Gongsanseong and Baekje Culture Center does not run today, 8 October; it resumes tomorrow, 9 October, and runs through 11 October from 13:00 to 23:00 every five minutes, with no intermediate stops. If you park at Art Center Goma, walk to Baekje Culture Center to board. Recheck official event and parking notices on the day. Regular heritage-site visiting hours in October are 09:00–18:00, with last entry 30 minutes before closing.
The official festival site lists five parking areas: the event-site lot (368 Geumbyeok-ro), a temporary lot at Kongju National University (shown in the notice as ‘Gongju University 56-34’; weekends and public holidays only), a Singwan-dong temporary lot (4-7 Beonyeong 3-ro, opposite Gyeongbokgung Wedding Hall), Art Center Goma (90 Gomanaru-gil), and Baekje Culture Center (73 Gomanaru-gil). If you park at Art Center Goma, walk to Baekje Culture Center to board the shuttle. Recheck the official map on the day because the university-lot address is reproduced as listed in the notice.
Why go
Choose it for a heritage visit that also feels like a real walk rather than a single monument. The walls and gates give changing views over Gongju and the river, and the fortress pairs naturally with the Royal Tomb of King Muryeong and other Baekje Historic Areas sites.
