Ganghwa Peace Observatory

A Civilian Control Zone observatory on northern Ganghwa Island where visitors can look across the river toward North Korea and use exhibition spaces to understand the border landscape. Best for travelers interested in modern history and geopolitics who are comfortable with security procedures.

Why it matters now

Current Ganghwa County information lists March–November opening at 09:00–18:00 and December–February at 09:00–17:00, with adult admission KRW 2,500. The 2026 Ganghwa city-tour route also includes the observatory and explicitly tells passengers to bring identification, a useful reminder for a border-area visit.

Why go

The experience is less about a dramatic building than the geography: on a clear day, the viewing floors put North Korean villages and terrain within sight across the water. Indoor exhibition rooms add context when visibility is poor. Carry valid photo ID and leave extra time for security checks.
