Chilam Port & Baseball Lighthouse, Gijang
Chilam in Gijang’s Ilgwang area is a working fishing port with three distinctive navigation lights: a white baseball-themed lighthouse, a red seagull lighthouse and a yellow conger-eel lighthouse. A photo spot at the port entrance frames all three. These are real harbor structures, not an amusement park; breakwater access can be restricted.
Chilam Port is scheduled to host the 20th Gijang Hairtail Festival from October 16–18, 2026. Gijang County’s official notice lists the opening ceremony at 18:00 on October 16; check detailed schedules and on-site notices for each restaurant’s hours, activity or tasting sessions and prices. This is a different event from the Gijang Culture and Tourism Festa on October 9–11 at Gijang Eupseong and Imrang Beach. Separately, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries selected the Baseball Lighthouse as its “Lighthouse of the Month” in June 2026, and a photo spot offering views of three lighthouses was created in November 2024. Those past notices do not mean an event is currently underway in October. Check work vehicles at the port, safety restrictions on the breakwater, weather, village-bus service and return transportation.
Why go
Make this a short coastal stop to see boats and the baseball-bat, glove and ball motifs, then consider the port’s conger-eel restaurants. Check each restaurant's opening hours and menu. Ilgwang and Imrang beaches are separate stops that may need onward transport, not one guaranteed waterfront footpath. Beware fishing operations, vehicles, slick surfaces, strong waves and barriers.
