Bukchon Hanok Village

Historic hanok residential streets between Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung, not an open-air museum. Jongno-gu's designated Bukchon-ro 11-gil Red Zone allows tourism only 10:00–17:00; tourism visits from 17:00 until 10:00 next day may incur a KRW 100,000 fine. The rules do not apply identically to every street and shop in Bukchon.

Why it matters now

For October 9–11 Hangeul Day weekend, schedule Red Zone sightseeing during 10:00–17:00. The regulated area is narrower than Bukchon as a whole. Shops and museums have their own hours.

Why go

Experience living Korean architecture quietly and responsibly, linking Anguk, nearby palaces and authorized cultural spaces. Do not enter private properties, photograph home interiors or disturb residents.
