1913 Songjeong Station Market

A roughly 200-metre traditional-market lane opposite Gwangju Songjeong Station. The market grew alongside Songjeong Station in 1913; traces of long-standing shops now sit beside refreshed storefronts, newer shops, and local food stalls. It is a practical stop in Gwangsan-gu before or after a train journey.

Why it matters now

No seasonal event is confirmed. This is a year-round option for a short local-food and market walk when arriving in or departing from Gwangju Songjeong Station. Gwangju Tourism notes that individual shops may keep different hours. Check the shops you plan to visit and your train departure time on the day.

Why go

Walk the lane to see shop-history markers, refreshed signs and storefronts, snack and meal shops, cafés, and small gift stores. Its position across from the railway station makes it easy to add to a Gwangju Songjeong Station itinerary. The market is short, and each shop can keep different hours, so do not expect every stall to be open. Individual accounts from 2016–2024 describe queues around popular bread-release times and takeaway-focused shops, but these dated visits do not establish current queues or operations. Allowing about 30–60 minutes for the lane alone, or 1–2 hours with a meal and waiting time, is an itinerary estimate.
