Seongbuk-dong

A hillside neighborhood north of central Seoul where old residential lanes, the Seoul City Wall, historic homes, small cultural spaces and quieter cafés sit close together. Bukjeong Village preserves a low-rise, lived-in landscape distinct from the denser tourist circuits around central Seoul.

What it feels like now

Seongbuk-dong

Seongbuk-dong rewards slow walking more than checklist sightseeing. The area shifts between residential lanes, cultural heritage, galleries, tea rooms and views toward the city wall, with Bukjeong Village adding a steeper, more intimate old-Seoul texture.

What's new

New & interesting

In autumn 2026, Seoul is treating Seongbuk-dong as one of its local-brand districts and using walking-based programs to encourage visitors to explore the neighborhood itself. An October 9 Seongbuk-dong Road Festa uses web-based alley missions, stamps and local-shop benefits rather than a single enclosed festival venue.
