2026 Sejong Hangeul Festival
A three-day Hangeul culture festival across Sejong Lake Park and Sejong Central Park, October 9–11. Official activities have different hours by zone and program; there is no single festival-wide opening time. Listings include the Hangeul Run on October 9 from 08:00–12:00 (Central Park, Ieung Bridge and the arboretum area), Hangeul play and hands-on activities, science programs, a Hangeul goods fair and water sports. The Hangeul train is paid (10:00–19:00); the Hangeul Sull-Sull traditional-liquor festival runs October 9–10, 16:00–22:00. The four programs on the official advance-booking page currently show registration closed, but that does not mean the entire festival is sold out. Check the official program page for walk-up activities and individual conditions. Scale context: In an October 1 report quoting a briefing by the Sejong City Culture and Tourism Foundation, local outlet Jungdo Ilbo reported 40 main and 42 linked programs (82 total), about 315,000 visitors in 2025, and a 2026 target of 330,000. The 330,000 figure is the organizer’s target, not an actual count. Published official listings differ on general hours: the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism lists 10:00–21:00 (until 19:00 on the final day), while VisitKorea lists 11:00–21:00. Do not treat either as a settled site-wide schedule; use the official zone- and program-specific listings. The official program page lists the Hangeul Playground at Green Field (Oct 9–11, 10:00–18:00) and an urban-park horseback-riding activity across from Lake Park Parking Lot 1 (10:00–17:00). Water sports at Water-Play Island are listed separately for Oct 1–31, 10:00–18:30.

The festival starts Friday, October 9. Official directions say visitors from Osong Station can take BRT B2, B3 or A3 to the south Government Complex stop, then walk about 15 minutes; local buses also connect from Jochiwon Station. The organizer estimates about 40 minutes by car from Daejeon. The separate traffic-control page still marks detailed plans as in preparation, but the organizer’s October 6 FAQ PDF says roads will be controlled during the October 9 Hangeul Run (08:20–11:40) and some parking lots will restrict entry or exit. The FAQ does not establish detailed detours or every affected lot, so check the latest notice before departure and do not assume parking or passage is available. Four advance-booking programs show closed; this is not a festival-wide sellout.
From Jochiwon Station, bus 801 goes to the National Coordination Office (Hantteul Village 3) stop, followed by about a 7-minute walk; buses 601, 550 and 991 connect to the south Government Complex stop, then about a 15-minute walk. From the north Government Complex stop, bus 204 reaches the front of the National Library of Korea, Sejong, in about a 3-minute walk; from the south stop, bus 222 is followed by about a 2-minute walk. As of October 8, the festival’s traffic-control page still says detailed guidance is being prepared.
